Document the existing problem
Photograph drafts, sticking, sill damage or staining and describe when the issue occurs. Ask for the cause to be reviewed before the new unit is specified.
Measure the whole opening
Discuss the frame, threshold, wall, floor, swing, landing and hardware. A nominal door size alone cannot describe all the work needed to make the opening sound and usable.
Name the weather details
The proposal should explain the treatment of the sill, weather barrier, exterior joints and any damaged substrate found after removal. Ask who makes the call if concealed repair is needed.
Compare the finished result
Check whether trim, paint, lockset, disposal, security during the change and inspection or approval requirements are included. Clarify product supply and warranty responsibilities.
Test and keep records
Operate the door, lock and closer with the provider. Keep the product model, final scope, invoice and any relevant installation documents together.
